MASTERS SWIMMING CANADA

WORLD RECORD PROCEDURES

World Record Processing Procedures

  1. World record applications must be forwarded from the provincial recorder of the province in which the record is set to the national recorder. This must occur as fast as possible due to the requirement that the application reach FINA in Lausanne within sixty days of the swim.
  2. World records set at a meet are to be sent under separate cover to the national recorder, who should also be warned via email or phone that such a package is en route.
  3. The following supporting material must be supplied in the package:
    • Meet results;
    • Electronic timing tape and manual timing cards/sheets;
    • Completed world record application form;
    • Proof of swimmer age, if not already on file with national recorder (photocopy of birth certificate or passport);
    • Completed pool length certification form.

Notes:

  1. Regarding pool length certification. This varies depending on whether the pool is a fixed length or has a bulkhead.
    • In the case of a fixed length pool, a copy of the survey certificate will be sufficient to verify the length.
    • Where a bulkhead is in use the pool will need to be measured at the start of the meet session to prove the length. The procedure for this is fully documented on the certification form.
  2. If either of (I) the pool survey certificate, or (II) proof of age, is not on file with the national recorder the application may still be sent through and these documents supplied later. There is a 30 day grace period for these documents to be supplied after the initial application has been made. The initial focus is to get the application for the world record to FINA within the sixty day limit.
  3. Whenever the National Recorder will be away from home for an extended period of time, the MSC board member fulfilling the liaison role will be notified of an alternative contact address. The provincial recorders will be notified of any temporary changes so that records packages will not be delayed.
